The Symphonic Poem "160th anniversary" is a piece composed to commemorate the anniversary of the Philharmonic Musical Society’s foundation of Los Realejos (Tenerife), the oldest musical society, founded in 1847, in the Canary Archipelago. The work is composed like a great soundtrack with a strong descriptive character and tries to set music to the history of this Society. The piece is devised for a concert music ensemble and the difficulty is not very high. However, one has to remark the prominence of two instrument families: brass instruments and percussion, with much highlighted parts. The piece is divided in melodic sections that come out through its general development and in the end they become an anthem full of sporadic instrumental chorals of woodwind, brass instruments and percussion.
