Maria Teresa Pelegrí i Marimon was born in Barcelona in 1907 into a family completely unconnected with the world of music. As a child she began to learn to play the piano, to which she devoted her youth, but her marriage and having to set up a home distanced her from these musical activities.
After more than twenty years of silence, almost middle-aged, she decided to devote herself seriously to music. She studied Piano under Gibert Camins and, later, under Carlos Pellicer; Fugue, Counterpoint and form under J. Poch, and composition under J.Soler. She attended classes on introduction to XXth century Music under Carles Guinovert and furthered her knowledge on this field by conscientioulsy studying modern trends and analysing musical scores of our century, immersing herself in all that concerning the New School of Viena. Besides this, she put toghether a large and select collection of recordings.
She used all this knowledge to advantage in her own musical output, in which she prefers discursive horizontality and the individualisation of different sound plans. |
