“Cuestiones de Ópera Contemporánea” (Contemporary Opera Issues) investigates a new and untreated issue, not even by the specialized bibliography: the nature and the basis of the conteporary opera. This is why the author analyzes the history of the opera in the 20th century (and the previous centuries) and brings to light the conflictive trajectory of the lyric art in the worst century since it was created four centuries ago, according to a lot of people.
The author places the epicenter of this crisis in the death of opera understood as the concept that put together the crisis of a model of society and the transformations of the musical language. The history of the opera in the 20th century (much more abundant than what people thinks) has always had this reference and the consequences still explain the positions taken by young composers when facing opera.
The book is completed with an extense chapter dedicated to Spanish opera and to the analysis of the role of the audience in this art, who still is the public face of music and a mirror of human emotions.
